Crochet gifts – some that arrive – others that don’t…

So today I have two things to tell you about. I think I have talked about how most of my designs come from thinking about a person I know and making them something which is in their style, or might be useful for them. There is one small snag with this…if these items get published in a magazine then the designs have a life of their own and the will spend time being photographed and quite rightly taken to trade shows etc. The lovely people at Inside Crochet Magazine have published my designs for Baby Rattles. One is a cheeky Monkey made using among a number of things, Smiley Stripes DK – ( I have so wanted to use this for something for ages). The other is a cute little Teddy.

Both were inspired by the imminent arrival of my dear little nephew. Well he has arrived and is ‘sans’ rattle. What an appalling Aunty I am. Plus I thought I might be rather good at that role…it is not working out how I planned.

If you are one of my good friends you might actually be rather relieved that I don’t inflict my crochet nonsense upon you. It is always the last minute unplanned gift which seems to find its destination to the recipient. These egg cosies were a quick little project for the ‘end of term’ gifts. I found some jaunty egg cups in my local supermarket and just had to whip up a couple of pastel cosies to match.

So if you are needing me to make you a crocheted gift, then the moral of the tale is probably to phone about a week before and declare a mitten/cosy/scarf/hat emergency, or you might actually be more like my son and rather have a bag of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs anyway.

oops! I left a comment on another page. The Teddy pattern is the one I am having trouble with. I don’t understand the instructions for the ears, R1. I know that dc equals sc for me, but what does it mean “5dc in every 3rd ch from hook…”
I looked on ravelry.com but I didn’t find the pattern to look there for comments.
    thanks! M
