When we came back from our Northumberland holiday, the boys decided they would like to change our dresser in the kitchen. Although not the most beautiful bit of furniture this small dresser is serviceable and much loved. Bizarrely while other parts of the house can go to rack and ruin I seem to find time to periodically change the items displayed on its shelves. Here is the last change.
We set about the task managed to find old treasured possessions and mix them with new souvenirs. Nowadays it is a collaborative effort which makes it quite good fun.
The idea, I think is to prolong our great British beach summer. One of the things I find amusing and infuriating about having a small child in our family is the little curatorial decisions they make everyday.Should I phrase that differently. It doesn’t matter how you might tidy a room – a small bit of luminous plastic will appear from nowhere.
Who knew for instance that an Egyptian and a replica Roman coin have a place in this seaside tableau? Like I say it makes me laugh, and most frequently at myself.
I am not sure when the dresser will be re-dressed. the summer just keeps going – well in our kitchen at least.
