Surface Crochet

I have used a surface crochet technique in my Toby Turtle floor cushion pattern.

Surface Crochet is simply working additional crochet embellishment or stitches onto a crochet base you have already made.

In this instance I made a circular piece of crochet working using an plain aran yarn. Each double crochet stitch is worked into the back loop of stitch on the previous row. This leaves a loop on the surface of the base crochet which makes it easier to attach the pom-pom yarn on top.

To start with I pulled one pom-pom through the circle in the middle of the spiral.

Then I double crocheted the pom pom yarn in between each pom-pom

I always worked in every alternate stitch (missing a stitch). I worked in a continuous spiral.

When I finished cover the base of the work with the pom-pom yarn I tied the base yarn and the end of the pom-pom yarn together.

I am making the Beatrice cowl and it references a row 5 that isn’t shown in the instructions. The pattern stops at row 4 and then says to repeat rows 2-5. There is no row 5. Can you send me e pattern correction please.
