Teacozies ~ The classic cupcake

cupcake1

Oh yes – it  is teatime and what could be more delightful than to whip out your cupcake teacozy to amuse both yourself and your friends. There are lots of patterns across the world on this theme. Over the years I have tried to perfect a crochet version of the design. For this pattern I have reversed the double crochet pattern for the pretty pink icing.

This decision was based on a conversation with my friend J – once my crochet pupil, now crochet genius (how annoying!) We were talking about one of her designs that used a double crochet spiral and it went like this:

Me: You know this is the wrong side of the pattern?

J: Really! Well I prefer it.

Me: Mmmm, good point – it doesn’t really matter anyway.

So there you go, challenged by the matter of fact design decisions of J, I think that the reverse side is a better choice. Little seed beads give this design a little sprinkle of star dust.

Both these designs are in Teacozies 4 available here and here.

Teacozies ~ Seasonal Style

pumpkin1

I am so sorry. I promised a week of teacozies and then life caught up with me and I failed to deliver on my promise. Today I have two teacozy designs to show you, both with seasonal slant.

pumpkintea1

If might be a little late in the Autumn to make a Pumpkin cozy. But keep this in your memory bank for next year. I love this design so much because it is quick and easy to make. Teapots are also the perfect shape to replicate a pumpkin and the curly tendril just tops the pumpkin off nicely.

plumpudding

You might however still have time to make this Plum Pudding cozy. I am quite a fan of Christmas pudding and whilst I don’t theme my whole house at Christmas, it makes me smile so much to bring out this design on the tea-tray in the run up to the Christmas season.

xmaspud

Thinking about it, both these designs were inspired by hats. When Little B was little I made a pumpkin hat and a Christmas pud hat for him. He looked so adorable in both. He was also too young to know how naughty his mother was, and couldn’t complain. I will pay for the therapy later.

Both these designs are in Teacozies 4 available here and here.

Teacozies Week

grannysqaure1

I am so excited to be able to share this project with you. Back in the new year I contributed to a new issue of the popular Teacozies series by GMC publications. I was able to design some crochet options for their new book which is now on it’s 4th version. So this week I will be sharing with you images from that book. The photos are beautifully taken by Laurel Gilfoyle. There are 30 great teacozies in this book, and I will share the 8 which I have designed.

Firstly is the Granny Square design. My intention was to create something unashamedly ‘vintage’. The yarn I have used has pastel hues and is meant to compliment a pretty set tea-table. It would be a good project to whittle down the yarn stash. If you feel tempted to purchase the book, it is available here and here online.
