Debbie Bliss Fall Magazine Animal hats – before their send off!

I just thought I would share with you some photos of some the designs before they went off to be photographed for the magazine. My doesn’t it show you the benefit of fabulous professional photography! One of the hardest things to do when you have finished a batch of designs is to take a breath and photograph the items in sufficient detail.

I try to do this with close up views of the pattern for two significant reasons. Finally I have learnt that six months later it is nice to give you a behind the scenes view on the blog. Secondly these shots can prove invaluable when there is a glitch in the written pattern. (This has actually happened to me this evening!) It enables me to count stitches and look at increases etc without the actual knitted/crochet item being in front of me. Phew!

So when we were developing the design for the hats and mittens, I put together some sketches and Debbie then put some suggestions and hints on the designs, to make them better. Her years of experience knowing what is comfortable and practical for children’s wear is invaluable. For instance as you can see from the Panda bonnet and mitten photos, there was an option for having a mitten with or without a thumb.

Buttons were used for eyes in the original sketches, we thought about using embroidery in the final designs and then went back to the buttons again when they were finished. I do hope you love them. Little B is a MASSIVE penguin fan – so the hat and scarf is very much a homage to him. But actually the photo in the magazine really reminds me of his good friend Jack. My sister has just had a little boy and ever since she was a girl has adored Panda bears, so the Panda bonnet and mittens was designed with my little nephew in mind. If I am honest, I would quite like to wear the fox hat myself.
