Holiday Knitting – The Betty Mouat Cowl

Sometimes when we go away for a couple of days I have a huge commission to finish and I use the long evenings and the lack of interruptions to let the little fingers fly. This week we have been away for a couple of days in the Lake District. I had no deadlines to fulfil and could kick up my heels and  choose a project which just took my fancy.

Having spent some time with Kate Davies back in October, I have long since wanted to make one of her designs. Just before our holiday I popped into my local yarn store and saw the most fabulous array of Jamieson and Smith wool.

Look at those colours – it is like sweets in a candy store! I had some blue shades already in my stash and was just able to add a few more shades to help me complete Kate’s Betty Mouat Cowl.

If you are an ardent Kate fan – this pattern will be a doddle to you. However it has been a while since I pushed my knitting skills and whilst the stripes did grow quickly I did need to keep my eye on the ball. On a number of occasion I got rather distracted by the view. Look at that wonderful landscape. Just to make sure I was quite comfy I sat, knitting in hand with strong black coffee to watch the sunrise. Bliss.

I have now completed both sides and have nearly finished the grafting…. grafting I tell you – a technical knitting term connecting two pieces of knitting together seamlessly…..yeah right! I am sorry there will be no further reveal until I have properly blocked this little number.

  1. It looks great Emma! I am in awe of Kate Davies, her work is amazing, I’m knitting her Snaw Paws at the moment, trying to practice my stranded knitting.

  2. It feels like a very long time since I have knitted anything at all (crochet is my thing…) and this project is giving me a hankering….but with all the projects I have on the go right now – another one might be pushing things a little too far! it looks fab, by the way!
