Dear Lovelies, It is a big big weekend. My new book Granny Squares Home: 20 Crochet Projects with a Vintage Vibe is published on Saturday. I am so excited to share the projects with you. What I have aimed to do is to take the basic crochet granny square and demonstrate that you can change the yarn or the construction  and create modern items for your home. These projects are not complex.

If you can already crochet a basic granny square you will find each item easy to grasp. I designed home-ware that I would desire for my own home; cosy lapblankets, bedspreads with a vintage vibe or practical caddies for the bathroom. It gave me a opportunity to write up old patterns like my hot-water bottle cover which I had not yet got round to publishing. You will also be pleased to know that I have not forgotten cute cuddly toys and there are a collection of bright and joyful nursery designs.

Thank you

I am so grateful to my publisher GMC, for the fabulous job they have done producing the book. The photos and the styling are so pretty. Even the paper quality is something to behold. My lovely editor Wendy is so utterly joyful to work with, but there are lots of people behind the scenes like my own dear friend Sue, pattern checker Jude, editor Cath and photographer Emma. I am so grateful to them all.The photos above show just a few of the twenty patterns in the book. Please tell me what you think.

  1. I love to crochet cause I love making things and giving them to my loved ones. My favorite is crochet blankets I can’t get enough of it. I love doing granny stripe, wavy, and granny square. Would love to win this beautiful book.

  2. Penny Edgington

Your book looks gorgeous & the photos just draw you in. I’m fairly new to crochet but I love it -it’s my oasis in a challenging world of caring for a very poorly daughter whilst living with a chronic illness myself. There’s nothing like getting out the yarn and hook! For the last year, all my spare time has been spent making blankets for the homeless (I love it) but your book might give me a sneaky moment to make something for myself x

  3. I love to crochet because it is calming and you can do a little every day. I love making blankets for loved ones and I have started my fourth. The book looks beautiful.

  4. Kirstyn Fisher

Lovely book! I like to crochet as I find it relaxing and so satisfying when you can give a handmade gift to someone. My favourite thing to make at the moment are blankets but I’m trying to get into garment making.

  5. I love to crochet as I find it an amazing way to relax. I also love how we can turn a simple ball of yarn into something fabulous!
My favourite thing to crochet is blankets and children’s clothing for my twins.

  6. I am new to crochet after learning the basics from my mum just before she passed away so this makes me feel close to her. I love granny squares and blankets as they are so easy for a beginner like me. You book looks great and maybe the inspiration I need to step out of my comfort zone.

  7. I learnt to crochet 5 years ago when going through a traumatic divorce!!! What a revelation!!!!! Calming and creative it keeps me sane and brings me joy!!!!! It’s opened up a whole world to me of wonderfully wooly people!!! Granny blankets for my grandchildren and friends are my favourite projects!! Who would have thought a new crochet book or ball of of wool would be so exciting and bring so much pleasure!! X

  8. I love to crochet as it gives me something meaningful and calming to do outside of being a busy working mum to my 3 year old. I love making things for the house – cushions, blankets, so winning this book would be perfect!

  9. I love to crochet as I find it very relaxing. I learned to crochet as a child from a substitute teacher in school. I can’t remember her name but I am so happy now that she taught me such a great craft. I returned to crochet a few years ago after I’d broken my wrist and found that wielding a hook was great physiotherapy. I love to make blankets as I find the combination of colors and snuggling under a half finished project so comforting and calming. The book looks great and full of items that I would love to make

I find crochet so relaxing. I can completely switch off from the stresses of life and float into another world when I have my hook in hand. I love to crochet animals for my boys and friends children. Our house if full of them. Along with blankets, you can never have too many blankets!

  12. I love to crochet! I’ve knitted fir over 30 years but am fairly new to the noys of crochet. And a joy it certainly is! It is a tremendous support to my ptsd symptoms; gentle repetitive hand movements with gorgeous yarn are soo soothing and meditative. My favourite item to make are blankets and blessing shawls.

  13. Lovely book! I love to crochet as I like challenging myself to make crochet things as I’m mainly a knitter. I don’t really have a favourite thing and have enjoyed all the things I’ve made. Would like to do more garments and toys. Love working with colour and usually have a colourful project on the go!

  14. My favourite thing to crochet are seasonal decorations and blankets, they make such lovely gifts for others. I get a lot of satisfaction from making something gorgeous for someone else that I know they will treasure. Crochet is my time to be mindful and calm and gives me the perfect excuse to get comfy on the sofa, in front of the fire with awful tv on hahaha

  15. Rachel Freeman

I love to crochet because, well I can! I’m not in the least crafty, don’t knit, see, paint or anything but I fairly recently discovered I can crochet and I really do love it, my favourite things I’ve made so far are some little toadstools, but I’m currently attempting a cardigan. So far each panel has been done at least twice so it’s not currently on my favourite list. Wish me luck. X

  24. Crochet is my comfort, it’s my therapy, it’s my way of creating beauty out of hard times and my way of connecting with the thousands of amazing creators who have crafted before me. I love most making gifts for my friends and family, birthdays and Christmases of course, but my most favourite are the ‘just because’ gifts that you make because you happen across a yarn or a pattern that you know will bring someone you love a moment of joy.

  25. I am newly obsessed with crochet and find it very therapeutic I have enjoyed making bags, but granny squares are my favourite! Thanks so much for the chance to win your beautiful book, I would love to make the blanket xxx

  30. I love to crochet as it’s relaxing and productive at the same time. I like to make projects that don’t take forever to finish – granny squares are right up my streeet!

  31. I love to crochet because it feels so good to make pretty and useful things while I lie on the sofa and very little else, also because I’m totally addicted and crochet controls me, not the other way around! I’m currently on a shawl frenzy and am on my 6th in the last 5 months. I also to make hats and cushion covers, I’ve made a few blankets but find my staying power often lacking!

  32. Karen Holmes

My mum taught me to crochet (apparently for the second time) three years ago, I find the repetition so peaceful and calming, it’s become one of my happy places. I love to make blankets and cushions, usually for gifts with love in every square, my first blanket takes pride of place on my mums sofa!

  33. I learnt the basics of granny squares as a child, but retaught myself when my daughter was a couple of months old. Lost in a sea of nappies, feeding and broken sleep, making these pretty little knots became my haven, my creative outlet and my therapy during those early months of parenthood. I became obsessed, learning more and more stitches, making baby blanket after baby blanket for my pregnant friends.
A few friends have also started to crochet after seeing the benefits of having it as a hobby has done for me.
I now sell my crochet, with my favourite thing to make still being baby blankets. I love seeing photos of the baby with my blanket!

  34. I’ve been a knitter for years now and crochet is new to me in the last 2 years. I love to create and cannot have idle hands. So far I’ve crocheted granny square blankets & I’m just tackling a toy pattern. I enjoy the calm it brings. Thanks for the chance to win. :0)

  35. Crochet is my stress therapy, I love to crochet in my lunch hour at work to take my mind completely off work. I am making a few clothes at the moment, but I also enjoy making presents for family and friends.. your book looks fantastic, well done!

After the loss of several family members in recent years, crochet was a good therapy. I now find it so rewarding to complete my makes and it gives me great pride and satisfaction that I can achieve such lovely items. I can’t see a time when I wouldn’t crochet, I just find it so rewarding!

  37. I love to crochet because I love all the possibilities of stitches and the beautiful yarn colours.
There is nothing better than snuggling under a crochet blanket

  38. Another lovely book! Thank you for taking the time to crate and share these patterns.
I learnt to crochet to make some furnishings for my first home as I was on a real budget so couldn’t afford anything I loved on the shops so I learnt how to make it myself. Now I have a 16 month old daughter if love to crochet her some cuddles from your patterns as I’ve never made toys before!
    Thank you x

  39. My mother-in-law taught me to crochet earlier this year, and it’s become an addiction! I started with granny squares and am working on a blanket. I’ve also made a mesh bag and a shirt that is basically two large granny squares. I’m a bit obsessed with granny squares, they are so versatile, there are so many possibilities! Would LOVE to win your book and see your designs!

  40. I find crocheting to be very relaxing. My favorite things to make are blankets and hats.

  41. Avery Murphy

I love Crochet because it helps keep me grounded and relieves my stress. I’ve only been Crocheting since April and have since mastered the dish cloth. I’ve also done a few amigurumi sloths and have really enjoyed that. Granny squares are next on my list things to try.

Hello… I have been knitting for many years but have just started to crochet using your Jack Rabbit pattern as a starter project, for my 10 month old baby daughter! My husband found the pattern in a knitting magazine… What a learning curve…. I have to say that I am really loving seeing Jack be created and how he all comes together. I think I am going to be a converted crocheter from now on. Certainly once I get your Cute Crochet Animals book for Christmas I will be!

  43. I found comfort in crochet at the saddest and hardest moments of my life. It helped me a lot with anxiety and depression. The results and dynamic of it make me feel useful and productive. Whole process for me is rewarding and comforting, especially if the pattern is demanding. Freeform and overlay are my favourite techniques, and clothes are my favourite items. Thank you for this wonderful giveaway and good luck to all!

  44. Thank you for the chance! Your book looks amazing! =) my favorite item to crochet is a blanket!

  45. I crochet for my mental health. It helps me find a quiet place in my busy brain. The feeling of achievement when a piece is finished helps lift my moods and maintain balance. My favourite thing to make is a good shawl/triangle scarf.

  46. When I’m stressed with life’s worries, I can escape with my latest blanket or granny square or dummy holder for friends babies. I’ve always loved knitting, but I am now bad about crochet and how quick it is, and if I’m in a dream world I can’t drop a stitch. It’s my happy place.
