Paper flowers #2

Now this is my son’s idea of a fun paper flower. A couple of weeks ago, I told you about some paper flowers I had made as party favours. I had realised in the nick of time (with helpful hints from my husband) that beautiful as they were, they were not for boisterous boys.

This week I was looking through Junior Magazine and they had a great article about Joel Henriques and his wonderful blog Made by Joel. Joel has been inspired by his children to develop fun and low-tech toys which feed young people’s imagination and can be made easily by the whole family. As part of the article there are instructions to make this paper flower. So undaunted I set about the project with Little B.

He loved it! I think Joel would be rather delighted with the declaration mid-way through the task, ‘Yeah, I’m designing my own flower!’ Although Little B cut out the first few petals, he couldn’t resist slipping them onto the centre and then rather bossily shouting for ‘3 more pink.. 2 purple..3 blue!’ But it was fun. The real proof of the pudding is if the flower makes it to show and tell…the odds are 50/50.

To make your own flower you need some floristry wire, curled round to make a base and then a long stem. Tape a 7cm circle to the top of the wire. The cut out a series of circles (or indeed) any shape. Fold the shape in half and make a small incision in the middle Slide each petal on to the centre!

I think of sea of these blooms would lighten anyone’s day. Have a sunny, funny week. x
