The Scalloped edge hat

One of the real benefits of the internet is definitely the access to fresh inspiration from the comfort of the armchair. I have found myself visiting websites from across the globe. I came upon a lovely blog from Maria Carlander with some very pretty scalloped patterned hats. Stupidly I didn’t spot the English version of the pattern but used the shape for design inspiration.

To get the definition of shape I used a lovely fine sock yarn by Regia and then used a double stranded Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace in Cyclamen for the rib colour. You can see from my recent posts that I have a bit of a grey and colour ‘pop’ thing going on at the moment. To ease my furrowed brow and avoid ‘making’ up my own pattern I adapted a Erika Knight hat pattern but then used a crown decrease used by Kate Davies in our ‘Tam’ designs. If you are looking for an excellent guidance on hat decreases you should swing by her blog and look at her very comprehensive tutorial.

I am not sure who this beanie is for – my face doesn’t really suit my face shape and does make me look very tired and old. However it might add it to my Christmas gift stash. I certainly love the scallop detail ~ a new shape inspiration.
