Back in the Garden

Having good weather makes all the difference. I have felt really inspired to get out there and pootle. For the first year ever I have been able to enlist  the help of Little B with the watering. Let’s be honest if you can pretend that the hose is cannon – who doesn’t enjoy watering!

I have tried to be disciplined about the deadheading and it seems to make a difference with the roses and the daisies.

Some of the roses that I had as my Christmas present have really established and are giving me so much pleasure. I am continuing to pick them and bring them indoors.

What an enormous joy they bring.

I think I get a disproportionate pleasure when a plant I have planted comes back successfully the next year. Surely this is one of the central joys of gardening. I am really pleased that these primulas have thrived. Their other nickname is the ‘Alien flowers’ as christened by a member of the family. The colour combination of the violet and the scarlet is so cool.

As you know I am a huge fan of Sarah Moore and really look forward to her articles each month in Country Living Magazine. A couple of months ago she featured the idea of growing strawberries in wicker baskets. The idea really appealed to Little B. He found some small baskets and re-purposed them for fruit growing. We hung the baskets on his den and then all the joy and responsibility was his. We are now enjoying their little crop. He did surprise me with a dedication to the watering cause. But then the prize is so sweet.
