Cute Crocheted Animals – my new book

cute-crocheted-animals1The Animals

I am so excited to introduce to you my new book, Cute Crocheted Animals. This is my favourite of all the books I have had the privilege to write. Inside you will find ten little cuddly character. A boy and a girl for five different animals; fox, mouse, bear, cat and rabbit

Each little person has their own character and a cute little outfit to wear. Once you have chosen your animal, you can mix and match, tops, dresses, shoes, jackets and hats.

I have been keen that the wardrobes reflect a quintessentially British style. Plus if you know a budding ballerina or sports fanatic there are outfits to suit.

It was so much fun designing little outfits for these guys. I had in my mind the children I knew and how they would love, play and cuddle these animals.

Our own darling cat Stanley also gets a look in – he is very much a ‘mews’. He is very much a star of the book and his own little character forms part of the narrative. I am almost tempted to crochet him his very own red tank top.

The book is published today; 7th September.  If you are visiting the Knitting and Stitching show at Alexandra Palace on Friday 7th October I will be doing a book signing and demonstration on the GMC stand. More importantly if you get to flick through a copy of the book please do leave a comment to tell me what you think. I would also love to see any photos of animals made. That would thrill my heart.

Hi Emma. I’m making Emily and clothes for my granddaughter for Christmas. I’m stuck on how to sew the straps on Bernard’s rucksack. Could you please explain in further detail for me. I just can’t work out what you mean and there is no back photo to work it out from. The book is amazing. I’m loving it.

    1. Sorry for the delay – my blog has been down for a couple of days. I think there is a mistake and you should only make 1 strap. Fold it in half and sew the middle of the strap to the top of the bag, where the flap begins and then sew the bottom of the straps to the bottom corners of the back of the bag where the through the back loop row is situated. Hope this helps.
      Thanks
      Emma

Thank you so much for raising this. I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to work it out. All makes sense now!

    1. They are made in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino which is Sport or 5ply.
      Thanks

Dear Emma, I absolutely love this book. I’ve made the foxes for two of my grandchildren, the mouse for a friend of my daughter and am now working on the bears. I’m have a bit of a problem with the bears though (besides finding the suggested wool which has now been discontinued). When making the bear’s head, the nose doesn’t look the same as in the photos. I’ve made about four attempts and so far, they all look the same, too round and not narrower at the beginning of the nose. Any suggestions? Is there some sort of misprint in the directions?

Thanks so much and again, I love these little animals and so do my grandchildren!

    1. Dear Mary I will email. Have a look at the video tutorials in the tutorial section of the blog. This will help. Also it is also about how you stuff the snout. So glad you like the book – thanks
      Emma

When visiting London last year I spotted your book at ‘Selfigess’. I am now on my 29th toy animal that Emma has designed. They are so fun to make and all the kids plus the three ‘big’ kids that I have gifted them to, love them. I could send you images of my work if your interested

    1. I would love to see these do you have FB and could you share to the page?

  6. I love your book. My grandsons have chosen their favourites so I’m currently making Ben Fox for the 2 year old and will then do Bernard Bear for the 4 year old (and then probably Emily or Lucy for me!). I’m new to crochet but have managed Ben’s head and arms with the help of your video tutorials and instructions in the book. I’m now really struggling with the feet – crocheting around the initial chain. Any tips? A tutorial would be great!

I’ve just borrowed this book from our local library . I’ll certainly be buying a copy though . It’s fantastic . I love all the outfits too . Thank you

Help please, I love this book but I’m stuck on Jacks foot I think there is a mistake in pattern and I’m unsure how to work it. Have 23 stitches from row 8 then row 9 is 8 DC ( dc2 together) 3 times then 12 DC but that requires 26 stitches

  9. I am a complete beginner! I have never crocheted a thing but this book is beautiful , I could not resist! Is there a place that is best to start?
    Thank you!

  10. I was gifted a copy of this book but I haven’t been able to find the recommended yarn in the correct colours in stock anywhere. Please can you suggest suitable alternatives (I’m colour blind, so I need the colour codes too) Looking forward to starting one of these cute critters!

  11. just brought this book love it first time doing anything Luke this easy to follow until I got to the foot can not work out for the life of me is there a video some where I can watch really want to finish this

Hi Emma I have made the Rabbits, Foxes and a Cat and love making them. I am now making the jumper for Bernard but I am having trouble doing the cable. Is there anywhere I can see how this is done.
    Many Thanks.
