Flori T – Summer Inspiration

Florals are ‘in’, in a big way this summer. You know you are seriously old when you feel you are watching a trend the second time round. I have seen floral jeans and floral pyjama pants everywhere in the shops. I am a big flower lover, but realise that if you have worn it the first time, maybe it is better to think carefully how you apply a trend the second time around.  I can remember making my own chintzy trousers when I was about 17, I adored them. But such fancies will be found on more youthful and lithe people now.

What I really do like are the number of designers who have used embroidered flowers as a decoration. These few tear sheets inspired my Flori T for Inside Crochet this month. What I wanted to make is a simple T-shirt shape (you would obviously wear a slip under it) and then add some detail with beautiful little crochet flowers.

I think I would be wearing a pair of linen trousers with this and some wedged heels for an evening barbeque. Or if you are feeling adventurous on your holidays then it would easily slip over a swim suit. Anyway, my intention was to combine the two joys of making your own garment and adding the little crafty detail of a bouquet of flowers.

  1. Looks great Emma, the flowers add zingy colour!
Interesting to hear about the floral trousers…we’ll just have to watch the younger generation wear them and remember our flowery youth….I had several Laura Ashley prints and an all in one cropped pink floral beauty…I loved it…not sure if there’s any photographic eveidence out there though!
