Birthday Celebrations & Penguin Bunting

February is a festive month in our family, exciting birthdays for boys! The festivities go on for a nice long time, it seems only right as I always make my birthday last for at least three weeks. There are lots of things I am not good at. A good friend of mine made a tremendous birthday cake for her little girl and I was totally blown away with her creativity.  I have never made a specialist birthday cake for Little B, the idea of making a Thomas/Stig/Buzz Lightyear/Darth just fills me with fear.  Something did occur to me in the middle of the night. Penguin bunting! Little B’s biggest passion is penguins and it was actually very easy to make these little chaps to decorate the kitchen.

I just rounded off a piece of black A5 card. I did have up my sleeve some scraps of sticky back plastic. With these I cut out a white bib, a yellow triangle for a beak and two small triangles for a bow tie. Finally I added some hole surrounds for eyes. The look on the birthday boy’s face was wonderful and well worth the time it took to make it.

  1. Hi Emma

I understand the penguin thing – I have a sister in law and a young son who both adore them. I don’t know if little B has a wonderful story book called Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. It stars a rather beautiful penguin and some gorgeous pictures. It’s a wonderful anytime of the day book.
Oliver Jeffers is from Belfast and his artwork is stunning – and if little B is like his mother and has an eye for lovely things – he might like to save up for one of Oliver’s wonderful limited edition prints featuring a the penguin of course!

    With love, Jude

    1. Isn’t that a co-incidence. I just framed a card of Oliver Jeffers for his birthday. Not the real thing, which is a shame. I love Lost and Found, it is so gorgeous. Thank you for commenting, it is so nice to hear from you. Plus I didn’t know Oliver Jeffers was from the wonderful NI. with lots of love Emma
