Book Review ~ Knitting Everyday Finery – Mel Clark

Well my Lovelies I haven’t done a craft book review for you for a while, so I thought I would have a quick look for you. Firstly I just wanted to be clear that my blog is intended to be a warm, positive place. I only tell you about books I like, so the ones I’m not so keen on – I just don’t mention. Secondly I have never been paid/sponsored or encouraged to review a book on the blog. I usually take my first browse either in my LYS or in this case the Library.  I have said it before and I will say it again, have a look at your local Library catalogue, you will be surprised by how many up to date books are there to be borrowed for FREE! Ok, on with the interesting stuff.

I think I have come very late to the world of lovely Mel Clark. It is through this book that I have discovered her wonderful blog, Slip Slip Knit. Not all designers are very generous with free patterns – but then very few people can make a living designing knitwear patterns. Mel has put loads of lovely fresh patterns on her site, and I will certainly be bookmarking a few.  Her book Knitting Everyday Finery is very beautiful. the styling is gorgeous and there are plenty of knits which are accessible for beginner, but a bit more challenging for those of us who want something different.

In fact this book was out in March 2012, but it has taken me all this time to spend a little time looking at it.

Look at this gorgeous image, if my hair was short and not so grey I would want this gamine cut – so pretty. There are lots and lots of patterns which really have a mixture of great shaping and new stitch detail, I urge you to buy it, borrow it or perhaps or put it on your wish list. It’s an heirloom book.

  1. I first spied this at my local knit group and fell in love with it. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to wear the orange tights, but the wrap on the fron cover is very high on my “want to knit” list.
